Weekly Update

Good Afternoon,

Friday's field trip was a lot of fun!  It was warm and everyone was tired by the end but it was  huge success.  Thank you to the many adults that joined us.  We could have done it without you!

This week we have library on Tuesday and P.E. on Wednesday.

This week we will begin a new chapter in math.  We are working on sorting/classifying objects based on size, shape, and color.

This week's letter are M, N, O.  Please review these letters as well as our sight words every night with your child.  Our sight word test will be on Thursday this week since there is no school on Friday.

In Writer's Workshop we are learning how important it is to have lots of details in our pictures.  This helps our reader understand more about our story.

We will also meet our third grade buddy on Wednesday or Thursday this week!

Grant's Farm Night:   Your reservation envelope will be coming home early this week as we prepare for the much anticipated Grant's Farm night this Thursday.  I look forward to seeing you all there.

No School this Friday due to Teacher Professional Development day.

Here are other important dates:

Practicing letter G...

Using our writing journals....

Weekly Update

Good Morning!
I hope everyone enjoyed their three day weekend.  I am really looking forward to some cooler weather this week!
Tonight is the first SPTG meeting at 6:45.  Teachers will be here to supervise children on the playground.

This week we will work on the letter G, H, and I.   Please look through your child's Sappington folder with him/her EVERY night.  Ask your child what letter we worked on today.  If they are not able to identify the letter please review/practice with them.

It is also important that your child is writing their name the Kindergarten way.  One capital only!  We are working on this every day,

If your child turned in homework on Friday I have checked it and returned it in their backpack today.  If they didn't turn it in I will get it this Friday.  Please do not write in the homework packet for your child.  It is really important that your child do the writing.  Also, please be sure to practice sight words and read to/with your child each night.  I have one homework packet that was turned in without a name.  If you think it is yours please let me know.

If you noticed during homework that your child is having difficulty using scissors please practice this at home.  We do a lot of cutting and gluing here at school and scissor use can be very frustrating for a child that has not used scissors much.  Just draw some basic lines/shapes on paper for your child to cut out.  This practice will be very helpful for your child.

This week library is on Tuesday and P.E. is on Wednesday and Friday.

Weekly News

We survived out first full week of kindergarten!! We are getting to know each other even better and having a lot of fun. Thank you for the many classroom gifts that we opened at our party on Friday. The students really enjoyed celebrating our first week.

This week we will continue with our Letter of the Day activities.  We have completed A and B and will now work on letters C, D, E, and F.  Please look through your child's Sappington folder with him/her EVERY night.  Ask your child what letter we worked on today.  If they are not able to identify the letter please review/practice with them.

Today we also began some sight word work.  Each week we will work on three new words.  This week's words are "I, see, like".  We will work on these words each day.  It would be very helpful for you to make flashcards of these words to also review at home.  A complete list of kindergarten sight words can be found in the Kindergarten Handbook.  Students who are already able to identify the letters of the alphabet will be assessed on the sight words at the end of each week.  At this time the sight word test is just them reading the words to me.  They are not expected to write the words.  If your child is still working on identifying the letters of the alphabet they will not be tested on sight words yet.  They will still work on the sight words in class but their assessment at the end of the week will just be on the capital and lowercase letters.   You will receive an email later today stating whether your child will be assessed on letters or sight words each week.

Today we also learned how to write our names "the KINDERGARTEN way".  This means only one capital letter.  Please help your child practice this at home.

This week we had library on Monday.  We will have P.E. on Tuesday and Thursday.

Tomorrow evening at 6:30 is our curriculum night.  There will be free babysitting in the gym as this event if for adults only.  Please make sure to have at least one parent attend as I will share lots of important information.

Monday Message

News for this week......
We are still getting to know many routines and procedures of our school. We are also getting to know our new friends.

This week library was on Monday. Please keep your child's library book in their backpack when they are not reading it.  That way they are sure to have it when we go to the library again.

P.E. Is on Tuesday and Thursday this week. This will be the schedule until Labor Day. Then P.E. will be on Wednesday and Friday. It is really best for everyone to wear tennis shoes everyday since we are here for such a short time.

Don't forget curriculum night is Tuesday, September 1st at 6:30. Babysitting will be available in the gym. Please plan to attend.

Thank you!
